Six hours of instruction open to dancers of all experience levels. Appropriate for both beginners and those wishing to deepen their practice in the foundation of the form. 

This size-limited workshop explores the
Fundamentals of Contact Improvisation.

With a group of 30 dancers, maximum - we will learn both skills and body-mind states that allow us to dance in this wonderful form.  
Material to be covered:

  • Skinesphere: breath, sensation, bonding with the earth
  • Attuning the body with Gravity, Momentum, Inertia, Friction
  • Rolling and Falling
  • Point of Contact: rolling, sliding, on/off, weight pouring
  • Small Dance

  • Supports/Lifts
  • Spheric body and space
  • Leading/Following/Ouiji
  • Attuning to space and group
  • Listening/Readiness/Improvisation


LOCATION:  
First Church Cambridge, 11 Garden St, Harvard Square (on the MBTA Red Line)
Parking in Harvard Sq. can be awkward.  Take the T or leave plenty of time to park.

NOT THE LOCATION WHERE SOME OTHER CIB WEEKEND EVENTS HAPPEN.

COSTS & REGISTRATION: 

Pay-it-forward Scholarships: Contact Improv Boston offers a scholarship program.  We collect your contributions and make those funds available for those who truly need financial support.  For this workshop, we are offering a limited number of applicants, $30-off their fee on a first-come-first-served basis. 

To apply for a Scholarship: If you wish to apply and cannot otherwise afford to attend, fill in the appropriate section when you register.

Everyone: When you register, please contribute to the Pay-it-forward Scholarship Fund.  CIB will distribute the funds at future weekend events.

OUT-OF-TOWNERS:  You are welcome - come one, come all! We can help you with housing here in the homes of local dancers. Please register early and indicate you need housing; we'll work it out for you.

TEACHER BIO: Patrick Crowley has been dancing Contact Improvisation © Michelle Pinagefor over 30 years.  He has taught at numerous dance centers, festivals, and universities both nationally and internationally, including Yale University, Boston University, Argentina Contact Festival, Freiburg Festival, Earthdance, among many others.  Patrick has worked and performed with Nancy Stark Smith, as well as with CI founders and teachers including: Daniel Lepkoff, Nina Little, Andrew Harwood, Kirstie Simson, K.J. Holmes, Steve Paxton, and many others. He has performed with many dance companies over the years, including Zany Angels, most recently. Patrick has a background in modern dance, Body-Mind Centering®, bodywork, yoga, theatre, contemplative practices, expressive arts, and martial arts. He was certified in bodywork by Sensei Toshiko Phipps and Nationally Certified in 1993.



THE FINE PRINT:

Cancelation Policy:
 •   If the whole event is canceled, we will refund the entire registration fee of pre-registered participants.  If we cancel an event part-way through, we will pro-rate that refund.
•   If a registered participant withdraws from an event more than two weeks before the event, we will fully refund their registration fee, minus a $10 administration fee.
•   If a registered participant withdraws less than two weeks before the event, no refund will be issued.  Also applies to no-show, (but please let us know so we can plan better.)
•   We will consider hardship situations for refunds before and during the event.  Please contact the registrar.
