Intermediate CI Workshop:
Travels Over Feeling
with Bradley Teal Ellis
Saturday & Sunday, March 29-30 in Cambridge

Travels Over Feelings:
Strategies and practical physical studies in Contact Improvisation

Deepen your Contact Improvisation practice through a blend of attunement, risk, and structural clarity.

This is an Intermediate Level Workshop, designed for dancers who seriously strive to advance their CI practice and regularly participate in the form.

Skills expected of an intermediate CI dancer: Required to join this workshop

  • Be comfortable on your feet, on the floor, and in transition between these
  • Modulate the physical tone of your body in relation to your partner
  • Take weight and be comfortable with your body off the ground
  • Navigate disorientation in motion (right side up, sideways and upside down)
  • Fall safely from a mid-level fly
  • Commit to being emotionally clear and present while dancing
  • Understand and communicate your emotional state in a dance
  • Accept responsibility for your own safety

Bradley Says: We will explore how attention shapes movement, how sensation informs choice, and how cultivating a responsive body allows for more dynamic and easeful dancing.

Through structured improvisations, weight-sharing studies, and physical problem-solving, we will develop practical tools for navigating shared balance, timing, and support.

We will investigate the mechanics that allow for continuity, fluidity, and adaptability in partnering - where is the support, where is the momentum, how can we ride it?

REGARDING BOUNDARIES: Consent and Touch

As always, participants have free agency to engage in any part of this workshop to their own degree of comfort. Dancers will be invited to partner-up and practice the form in-contact.  You have the option to choose (or choose not) to engage in any exercise or partnership, also to end any interaction at any time.
