About the weekend...
 Between the Floor and Space:
Flying in Contact Improvisation

Two days, two levels: Advanced Beginner and Intermediate

In this workshop, we’ll explore the mechanics of flying: giving and receiving weight, tracking centers, soft collisions, offering ledges, and getting under.

Using momentum and leverage to find easeful alignment, we become each other’s ground. With a light, ready body, we’ll study the journey from down to up and up to down, discovering freedom in mutuality. Starting close to the floor, we’ll build confidence, ease, and safety as we rise into shared flights, improvising, testing, and co-creating mobile support systems.

Saturday introduces the foundations of safely sharing and supporting weight for flying. (Advanced-Beginner level.)

Sunday deepens into intermediate transitions in and out of flight, catching momentum, and improvising through evolving possibilities. (Intermediate level.)

Both Saturday and Sunday: Continuing to return to the fundamentals is the clearest path to towards more freedom and possibility in Contact Improvisation. Appropriately experienced dancers are encouraged to participate in the whole weekend as the workshop material will build from Saturday to Sunday.

Here's a metric for the expected experience levels:

Saturday: Advanced-Beginner level - Nov. 15th (10am to 5pm)
For dancers with a solid grasp of contact fundamentals:

• You’ve taken other workshops or classes & feel ready to further your skills
• You feel comfortable with moving in and out of the floor, safely
• You have listening skills to work improvisationally in contact with partner(s)

Sunday: Intermediate level - Nov. 16th (1:30pm to 6:30pm)
For dancers who seriously strive to advance their CI practice and regularly participate in the form:

 • You have a solid understanding of weight-sharing, momentum, and physical listening: on your feet, on the floor and in transition between these
 • You navigate disorientation in motion (right side up, sideways, and upside down)

 • You have a falling practice that balances risk with safety
 • You accept responsibility for your own safety and boundaries

Sign up for both Saturday and Sunday (Intermediate level)
Appropriately skilled dancers are encouraged to attend both days, as the material on Sunday will build on the foundation of Saturday.

As always, participants have free agency to engage in any part of this workshop to their own degree of comfort. You have the option to choose (or choose not) to engage in any exercise or partnership, also to end any interaction at any time.
