WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
"Reflex Arc"
A Contact Improvisation Workshop for all Levels of Experience.
Contact Improvisation is a movement form that offers opportunities to experience heightened states of being – times when we feel fearless and alive. There are no recipes to create these moments, but training can lay the foundation for physical and emotional breakthroughs. In this workshop we are specifically interested in developing our reflexes, our coordination, and the capacity to continually recycle our mental and physical energies back into the dancing. At the core is the commitment to staying with the modulation of tone and weight in the body – so that the touch remains alive.

Chris Aiken: Chris is a leading international teacher of contact improvisation and dance improvisation. His approach to contact has evolved through years of practice and collaboration with many of the seminal figures in this field, including Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith, Andrew Harwood, Ray Chung and Peter Bingham. Chris’ work is informed by years of study of Alexander Technique, ideokinesis and the fascial principles of Structural Integration. Chris began his contact teaching with his dear friend and collaborator, Olivier Besson.
Angie Hauser: Angie teaches Contact Improvisation from her point of view as a dancer, performer and dance maker. She is fascinated by the forms seemingly endless opportunities for discovery, play, and growth. In addition to CI, she is influenced by her study of ballet, butoh, yoga and postmodern dance.
