Momentum with Patrick Crowley
...a mixed-level, beginner-friendly
workshop
Welcome to the Contact Laboratory of Momentum! Starting with the subtle momentum, we will explore letting go and finding new muscular and neurological pathways. The state of bouyancy will underlie our research. I will offer methods of perception that will help create ease and clarity in full-bodied dancing. Our goal is to rejoin the physical forces so we can abandon ourselves to its intelligence. Flying is a natural outcome. We will challenge ourselves and discover mystery.
The Sweetness of Suspension with Brando
for Intermediate/Advanced contact improvisers
Brando says, "I am most fascinated with how Contact Improv can be a form that both nourishes the body and invigorates the spirit. My ongoing focus is to find the sweet points of efficiency - a harmonious place between release in my muscle tone and integrity of my structure. My approach to dance focuses on somatically educating the body through a deep felt sense of the anatomy. This mapping helps us gain an understanding of how to optimize our body for movement; thereby moving through space: walking, dancing, leaping or falling with far more ease, efficiency, and elegance."
Sunday Afternoon Lab for advanced contact improvisors with Brando
... limited space; sign ups at the event (small additional charge)
This offering is for those who have a foundation of skills in CI and an invested and consistent practice in the form. Labbing is a structure for CI practitioners who want to experiment with ideas/questions and challenge their dancing with a group of their peers. I will introduce a lab on a specific type of feedback. In this structure there will be time for participants to improvise and include their own approaches to working with the material.
