Teacher Bio:

Gene began practicing Contact Improvisation in 1998 at the age of 37 with no experience in any other form of dance and a deep fear of dancing generally. After being welcomed into his first jam with the mantra "take risks, explore and have fun" ... he was hooked and has continued a lifelong commitment which has led him through thousands of hours of jamming, performing and teaching around the world and a deep commitment to creating and supporting dance events locally where he lives in Boston. Gene was instrumental in creating and founded ContactImprovBoston.com along with other leaders in the Boston community to create the first community based/owned organization that continues to support and grow CI in the Boston area. Gene is currently on the board of directors for Dance New England (DNE.org) and has written for Contact Quarterly. Gene has taught workshops and performed in Boston/Cambridge, western MA, Quebec, India, and Malaysia. Gene owes a debt of gratitude to the many teachers that he has been privileged to learn from over the years, including Nancy Stark Smith, Daniel Lepkoff, Nita Little, Andrew Harwood, Kirstie Simpson, Martin Keogh, Olivier Besson, Patrick Crowley, Felice Wolfzahn, Moti Zemelman, Lani Nahele, Shakti Smith, Angela Doni, and many others... Gene even had a cup of coffee once with Steve Paxton, but then, that's just name dropping! ;) ... Gene grew up in South Carolina, graduated from MIT with an Engineering degree, designs software and manages teams of engineers, has four grown children and is also a student of many forms of transforming our lives, including Byron Katie, Marshall Rosenberg's NVC, Landmark Forum, Pathwork, HAI, and others. Gene is also passionate about mediation and helping to create more peace in the world.
