Special features of the event

  • Jeff Bliss, Artist-in-Residence, His message (below) will help us to understand that: Gravity tastes like honey
  • Saturday night Movement Jam featuring live music by Shamou (open to public!)
  • Monday off-the-dance-floor community play time (Beach Day, weather permitting!) (open to public!)
  • Beginners are welcome and supported! There are many experienced dancers to help you learn or deepen this wonderful art form.

A Messasge from Jeff Bliss:

Keep Growing    This is the seasonal imperative all around us and it must continue for our lives too.  How do we expand our practice of contact improvisation beyond where we are today?  How do we do it for ourselves when we are engaged in a dance and mixing our expectations with others?  How do we limit expecting anything from our partner, but rather practice listening through touch and our reflexes?

Beginner's mind is still the antidote to the habit of destination.  I look forward to having your help with studying these questions.  Bring your brilliance and meet me on the floor.    Gravity still tastes like honey.

Jeff Bliss bio:

Jeff danced professionally with Betty Jones and with Liz Lerman/Dance Exchange for over 10 years.  As a member of Group 6 (with Chris Aiken, Nancy Stark Smith, Ray Chung, Julie Carr, and Peter Bingham) Jeff explored composition and performance issues in contact improvisation.  For six years Jeff was artist-in-residence at the Children’s Hospital National Medical Center and for 9 years he was a national training artist for the Wolftrap Institute.  Jeff was on the summer faculty of Naropa University and served as senior program manager at the Lincoln Center Institute in New York City for 9 years.  He still teaches family improvisation classes at Jacob’s Pillow every summer and longs for more time to attend jams.
