FALLING AND FLYING with Moti Zemelman

a two-part all-levels workshop (take either or both sessions)

Saturday afternoon - COVERING GROUND

© Sanford LewisFalling can be fun! What goes up must come down, and you have to go down to go back up again.  Learn how to root, roll, and dig into the Cliffs, Plateaus, and boulders of our bodies to find that negotiation with gravity that we call flying. Find new pathways to the ground.  Learn about your soft landing gear.  Find ways to be light even as you anchor yourself to the Earth's gravitational pull.  Come fall down and cover some new ground.

Sunday afternoon - GROWING WINGS

© Jun Akiyama

A study in the art of flying, we'll explore lifts, weight-sharing and the dynamics of flight.  Learn to develop more comfort with heights, being upsidedown, and using momentum through the air.  We will practice listening to the subtle invitations that our partners offer us to go UP and find new pathways towards the sky!

Saturday Afternoon Class with Kristin Horrigan

         for Intermediate/Advanced contact improvisers

© Chris Golden What happens when we shift our bodies into a particular state of being and then engage our CI skills in dancing?   What new movement, new dynamics, new connections might we discover?  This class takes a shared understanding of the basics of CI as our baseline.  We will then use state change as a doorway to exploring areas of possibility within our dancing.

Sunday Afternoon Lab with Kristin Horrigan

for advanced contact improvisors  ... limited space; sign ups at the event!

© Andrew Semegram After a full weekend, we will take some time to dig into the questions that are alive in our dancing.  Using a combination of moving, writing, and talking, we will surface and explore our curiosities, frustrations, delights, and rough edges.  Bring ideas that have bubbled up over the course of the weekend or use the lab process to uncover interests that you can carry forth into future dancing.
