Paul Singh, Artist-in-residence
 Philosophy for the weekend:
Contact Dancing is a guided meditation in patience, as well as a the greatest test of lighting quick instincts. Bring all of yourself to the dance floor - your aches and pains, your memories good and bad, projections of your future self, all of your expectations, all of your talents and all of your weaknesses. This workshop (and hopefully the entire weekend of jamming) will be a place to shed all of your unnecessary pieces.

Goal for the weekend:
I want to challenge every body in the room. Let’s use sweat and limbs to decipher time and space. Together we will ask very good questions and be brave in scouring for the answers. Can we challenge our current idea of improvisation? Can we create a practice that allows us to honestly have the opportunity to move in any directions possibly? Can I meet and hear another body and remain true to my personal spontaneity? Can we tear through space as hungry animals and have regard for all things near us?

TEACHER BIO: Paul Singh lives and dances in New York City. He earned his BFA © Steven Shreiberdegree in Dance from the University of Illinois, USA, where he focused on a variety of dance methods including Alexander Technique, Ballet, Modern and Contact Improvisation. He began his studies in CI with Chris Aiken and since then has studied with Angela Dony, Yaniv Mintzer, Ray Chung and others. While recently visiting CI festivals in Israel, India, Russia, Spain and Germany, Paul spent time participating in intensives as well as assisting or teaching fundamentals in falling, flying, failing and laughing. As a student and teacher, he uses his understanding of Bartenieff Fundamentals as well as his innate sense of spatial awareness to explore more deeply the ideas of being grounded, becoming softer, and forgetting the difference between up and down.
There is a brief video of Paul dancing with Tim O'Donnell on YouTube. Check it out.
